Immunization Insights

Spokane City Hall Chambers, 808 West Spokane Falls Blvd.

On Tuesday, March 23, Spokane Public Radio and City Cable 5 team up to bring the facts and controversies surrounding vaccines to light in the annual Health Forum: Immunization Insights, which will be held in the Spokane City Hall Council Chambers from 6:30 to 8:30pm.

Moderated by Steve Becker, the forum panel includes: Kathe Reed-McKay, health services director for Spokane Public Schools; Bill Edstrom, epidemiologist with the Spokane Regional Health District; Dr. Colleen Terriff, clinical associate professor with WSU's College of Pharmacy; Dr. Deborah Harper, pediatrician; and Dr. Joel McCullough, health officer for the Spokane Regional Health District. The two hour forum will open with a statement from each of the panelists in the first hour, while the second half will focus on questions and comments from the audience.

Immunizations are a routine part of growing up and of raising children. When traveling to exotic lands, we are advised to inoculate ourselves against bacteria-carrying insects and tainted water, but there's a lot more to learn about vaccines than we hear about from family doctors learn about from the media. Immunization Insights will examine the benefits and risks of infant, adolescent, and adult vaccines, present the latest science, and offer attendees the opportunity to ask questions of panelists, as well as share their own views and knowledge.

Immunization Insights will be taped for later broadcast on Spokane Public Radio stations KPBX and KSFC, as well as television station City Cable 5. Check back on March 24 for
times.
